Hour6 ~*♥Danielle♥*~--mrs.r--
is there any way possible that the robot encontered something, got totled except for the communications and is now drifting off in space. Is there any way it could take much less then 9 1/2 months. Is there any romote way possible??
also, do you know why they chose arizonia not like the kennedy center or any where else??
In this movie, I noticed that the robot will travel towards Mars at a speed of 12,750 miles per hour, and in seven minutes it would use shield friction, a parachute, then descent rockets to slow down to about 5.4 miles per hour. This was interesting to me, because It is hard to imagine a robot being able to slow down that much in only seven minutes. That is just unbelievable.
Jordahn Hr. 6 so muriel i am hoping that u are still on but um like wouldnt the sun be very bright that would be to awesome, if we did send a robot out would we like have some kind of a remote control to control the things that make it move or would it have timing to move the robot like wen to pick up rocks or if it is suppose to refuel itself or rebute but i do think that is da same thing just dif words probably. sry for the lil un conversational thing but i think that hopefully someone has some thing to comment on this paragraph
hour7.......Joshua R........
Ben K. Hr. 7- I think it would be extremely challenging because the signals from the Phoenix would come back 10 minutes later. You wouldnt know what is happening presently. Also, I've seen documentaries on how hard it would be to make a spacecraft hover in one place without it crashing. It's amazing that the Phoenixis going 920 miles an hour. What is also amazing is that when the outer shell is 2900 degrees farenheit, the Phoenix is at room tempurature. I didn't see how it launched into space, but I can infer that it was the same as the rover.
Mrs. R..........Think about how fast this goes and far it goes. It's amazing. Josh....I think you're right that's it hard to imagine anything going this fast. To slow it down must take a lot of fuel which is why I think they use several different methods...the thruster rockets, the parachutes and the friction of the Martian atmosphere.
Hour 5 JackT.- The 7 minutes of terror are the seven minutes it takes for phionex to land on Mars and it is also when they have to be the most careful with the parachute, the speed decrease, and the free fall to the surface of Mars. I think this was a really cool video.
hour7......Joshua R.......... I think...Taylor B........Hour5...... Is right about the fact that she thinks it's going to wok, because they have been working to perfect it for about 5 years now. I also think it is going to send back some pretty sweet images from Mars to us. Do you agree with me? Looking forward to your reply.
Jordahn Hr.6 Hey Mrs. R are they goin at the speed of light to get there so fast cuz i thought that mars would take like a coupla days ta get there so since it doesnt tae that long to travel such a long distance how far away is mars from here. but doesnt it take awhile for you to get to pluto but it may be far but dont you think it wouldnt take that long to get there if we can get to mars so fast in 7mins or something around that i think it is really amazing how fast we can get there. i really wonder about the other planets tho
Jordahn hr. 6 Yo steve um like do you kno haw fast they r going because they get to mars in a really short mount of time for this to hapen so i was wonderin do u no?
Steve 6
Josh and taylor are both right
it could happen if all the right cards fall into place
it go right it also could go terrible and a waste of goverment money
Jordahn hr.6 o ya it goes really fast but wouldnt it just one lil thing comes out to fast or if they dont start to land at the point would go out of control and like land maybe on a dif planet or just go out to space the whole time. Steve so this is all based on the goverment money well wat if the global warming started to speed up wit would be cool if we could like get alot of rockets or maybe even some othr kind of transportation and went to mars tryin to learn bout that eviroment and survive
Ben K. to Jordahn-And by the way, the Phoenix doesn't travel to Mars in 7 minutes. It takes 7 minutes for the Phoenix to go from 920 mph to a complete stop in Mars' atmosphere.
Jordahn hr.6 o well someone told me that it took 7 minutes but that would make since now then how long does it take to get to mars wen u arent in the atmosphere
Mrs. R...........someone asked about if the spacecraft traveled at the speed of light. I think it goes about 186,000 miles per second.
You guys do the math. If it goes 186,000 miles every second...how many miles does it go in an hour??? Once you know that you can compare it to the spacecraft that carried Phoenix. It is about 13,000 mph. How does that compare?
do you agree or disagree that light goes faster than a spacecraft? show me the math that proves your answer is correct.
elizabeth w. hour 7~~~Mrs. Ratzel asked to compare the spacecraft traveling speed to the speed of light. The light goes...669,600,000 mph and the spacecraft that carried phoenix went 13,000 mph. I figured out how many mph light traveled at by multiplying 186,000(miles per second) by 60(getting miles per minute) then i multiplied that by 60(miles per hour) Therefore, light travels MUCH faster than the spacecraft did. Do you agree??
hour 8 Abbie W- I had no idea that we would have 3 rovers on mars! I believe that we will have SO much more information on Mars in just a short period of time (by short I mean like a couple of years). How much space can a rover cover in a certain period of time though? Because if it can only travel a little than I wouldn't be surprised if we send up more in the near future.
hour 8- Also (I forgot to mention in my last comment) I agree with Elizabeth W about the speed of light and the rover because if it is taking this rover almost 4 months to land on mars and it takes light a few seconds to get to Earth than you kind of already know it is faster and I did the math and got 669,600,000 too making it WAY faster than than the rover.
Mrs. R............I think you're right on Elizabeth W....the speed of light is much, much faster than even this speedy spacecraft. How do you think the speed of sound compares to the spacecraft and/or the speed of light?
Abbie hour8- ok i looked up speed of sound and got 186,282.4 miles per second which is only a little greater than the speed of light but I'm not quite sure about because I remember Ms. Ratzel talking about it and how light was faster so I'm not quite sure about that comparisson but I know that the speed of sound is faster than the space craft. Do you agree?

Your big challenge to is collect ideas, images, photos, drawings and written ideas to explain "How Things Move". We can use the robots to find things out and also the motion detectors.
Here's a special challenge open to anyone that wants to take it....investigate what the newest robot on Mars will be called and when it is scheduled to land. Try looking at this NASA page to see if you can get more information. (once you get to the page, you'll definitely want to watch the video that is housed in the right sidebar---called "Entry Descent and Landing". You'll learn more about how a spacecraft and its designers think about the problems. They call the descent 7 minutes of terror.....watch and find out why!!!!!
Be sure to post back on the new page to tell us what you found out!!!
